Hopewell came tearing into Thursday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.2 goals), and they left with even more momentum. Their defense stepped up to hand the West Mecklenburg Hawks a 9-0 shutout. Mackenzie Smith was a massive factor in the win as she booted in three goals all by herself.

Hopewell pushed their record up to 8-3-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those four games. As for West Mecklenburg, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-7.
