Preview: Messmer Bishops vs. Heritage Christian Patriots
The Messmer Bishops will head out on the road to take on the Heritage Christian Patriots at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Messmer is no doubt hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Messmer pushed their score all the way to 85 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 100-85 fall against Living Word Lutheran.
Meanwhile, Heritage Christian waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They pulled ahead with a 63-62 photo finish over Kingdom Prep Lutheran. Given Heritage Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while the Wolfpack are ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Desmond Jones, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Scott Miller, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Messmer has not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for Heritage Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.
Messmer was dealt a bruising 83-55 defeat at the hands of the Patriots when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Messmer, Jaylen Johnson (who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
