Softball Game Preview: Lincoln Hornets vs. Southwest SD Raiders

The Lincoln Hornets will square off against the Southwest SD Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lincoln has seven straight wins, Southwest SD has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Lincoln will bounce into Monday's match after beating La Jolla, who they had gone 1-7 against in their eight prior meetings. The Hornets blew past the Vikings 20-8 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won 13 games by eight runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Leyahniah Paleafei, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Nyema Curtis, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Lincoln was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. Their batting average was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .444 that La Jolla posted.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last four contests, Southwest SD finally came back down to earth on Thursday. They lost 18-1 to Sweetwater. The match marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Lincoln pushed their record up to 14-10 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.9 runs over those games. As for Southwest SD, they now have a losing record of 9-10.
