Softball Recap: Proviso West Takes a Loss

Proviso West extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 25 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-12 in the process. They came up short against the Oak Park-River Forest Huskies, falling 18-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 on May 2nd.

As for Oak Park-River Forest, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 23-8. Considering they have won 16 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Oak Park-River Forest's part, Gabriella Chesney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Chesney has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Arielle Spurlock looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

Back at the plate, Charlie Terry was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Gloria Hronek was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

Proviso West and Oak Park-River Forest could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Panthers (ranked 458th) will meet Hinsdale Central (ranked 190th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Oak Park-River Forest will challenge Marist at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (33 vs. 2).
