East Wake hasn't had much luck against Fike recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The East Wake Warriors will square off against the Fike Demons at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
East Wake got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They secured a 43-38 W over Hunt on Thursday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Wake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shanel Harrison, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Johnson, who posted nine points and six rebounds.
East Wake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Fike put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 42-33 win over C.B. Aycock. The 42-point effort marked the Demons' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Fike's win came from a few key players East Wake will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jamaria Freeman, who had 18 points. The game was her seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emory Skinner, who put up 12 points.
East Wake is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-8 record this season. As for Fike, they pushed their record up to 12-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: East Wake has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Fike struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
East Wake suffered a grim 54-30 defeat to Fike in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Fike's Jewel Brewington, who posted 15 points along with eight assists and five boards. Now that East Wake knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
