Softball Game Preview: Edgerton Bulldogs vs. Paulding Panthers

The Edgerton Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Paulding Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Edgerton has five straight wins, Paulding has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Edgerton's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Pettisville 11-0. Considering the Bulldogs have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Swank was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Casey Everetts, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Edgerton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Paulding came up short against Defiance on Monday and fell 4-1.

Paulding saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jalyn Klopfenstein, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Edgerton's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Paulding, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Edgerton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Paulding struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Edgerton couldn't quite finish off Paulding in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
