Soccer Recap: Butler Takes a Loss + How To Watch

While it was all tied up 1-1 at halftime, Butler was not quite Independence's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They fell 3-1 to the Patriots. While losing is never fun, Butler can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 255th, while Independence are ranked 84th).

Butler's goal came courtesy of Antonio Ortega, who's now up to three this season.

Butler has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14-2 record this season. As for Independence, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-4.

Looking ahead, Butler will head out on the road to face off against South Mecklenburg at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South Mecklenburg's last three matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Independence, they will host Rocky River at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
