Two dominant backs in Reese Cabe and Jude Dunavin are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Tascosa Rebels will host the Amarillo Sandies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Tascosa will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up six points last Friday, then bounced right back against Caprock on Thursday. The Rebels simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Longhorns 52-10. The win continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Longhorns: they've now won seven in a row.

Tascosa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deandre Sanders led the charge by rushing for 95 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries. Those 95 rushing yards gave Sanders a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Coltyn Fulton, who rushed for 96 yards on only nine carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Tascosa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 431 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 180 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Amarillo against Lubbock on Friday as the squad secured a 58-13 victory. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 51-6.
Tascosa better keep an eye on Jett Lopez. He was instrumental in Amarillo's win, throwing for 309 yards and seven TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes. Thanks to that big game, Lopez is now up to 29 passing touchdowns on the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Blackwell, who picked up 112 receiving yards and three scores.
Amarillo's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB six times. Kason Stroud refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Another thorn in Lubbock's side was Stroud, who picked up 1.5 sacks, made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.
Tascosa's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Amarillo, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Tascosa has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 322.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Amarillo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 187 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Tascosa didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Amarillo when the teams last played back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 34-29 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Lopez, who threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Rebels still be able to contain Lopez? There's only one way to find out.
