Softball Game Preview: Grapevine Mustangs vs. Denton Broncos

It'll be an old-fashioned rodeo when Grapevine Mustangs take on Denton Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Grapevine is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Grapevine is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Argyle just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles.

Bella MacMahon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gisele Rayngay made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ashley Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.

Meanwhile, Denton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They lost 9-1 to Richland.

Grapevine's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Denton, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15-1.

Everything went Grapevine's way against Denton when the teams last played back in March, as Grapevine made off with a 15-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
