Baseball Recap: Verdugo Hills Comes Up Short

Verdugo Hills lost against Roosevelt back in April of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Verdugo Hills Dons fell just short of the Roosevelt Rough Riders by a score of 8-7. That's two games in a row now that the Dons have lost by just one run.

Ethan Sanchez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cutlor Gouger-Fannon, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Sanchez wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Verdugo Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Verdugo Hills dropped their record down to 1-6 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 2.25 runs. As for Roosevelt, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.

Coming up, Verdugo Hills will face off against Marshall at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Verdugo Hills is facing Marshall at the right time seeing as Marshall is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Roosevelt has already played their next match (against La Serna), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
