Softball Recap: North Woods Triumphs

North Woods and Cook County pushed the score to 17-5 the last time they played Cook County, but on Monday defenses reigned supreme. The grizzlies had just enough and edged out the Vikings 3-1. The grizzlies haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Zoey Burckhardt made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emarie Gibson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Evalyn Thiel was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

North Woods' victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Cook County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

North Woods will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
