Basketball Recap: Kayla Mccaster's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mitchell over Bolton

After flying high against Hamilton two weeks ago, Mitchell came back down to earth. The Mitchell Tigers'2024 ended with a 43-25 loss against the Bolton Wildcats on Monday. The matchup marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Mitchell's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayla McCaster, who posted five points in addition to eight boards and seven steals. The dominant performance gave McCaster a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Carley Bryson, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Mitchell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Bolton found their leader in sophomore I'Mari Pointer, who put up 17 points in addition to six boards and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Adryona Tolbert, who had four points and eight steals.

Mitchell now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Bolton, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.

Mitchell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 40-38 loss against Booker T. Washington on the 8th. As for Bolton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 58-45 defeat against St. Benedict at Auburndale on the 7th.
