Recap: Dunbar Poets vs. Dunbar Crimson Tide

The Dunbar Poets lost to the Dunbar Crimson Tide back in January of 2023, but the Dunbar Poets didn't allow the Dunbar Crimson Tide the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Poets had just enough and edged the Crimson Tide out 56-53. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Poets' disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 79th in Maryland, while the Crimson Tide are ranked tenth in District of Columbia).

The Crimson Tide's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Howard, who scored 11 points. Brian Jackson was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

The victory makes it two in a row for the Poets and bumps their season record up to 6-3. As for the Crimson Tide, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. The Poets will square off against the Bears at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Bears will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. The Crimson Tide are on the road again on Monday and plays the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on January 29th. The Bulldogs have been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 441 points over their last seven contests.
