Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Concord walked away with it. Everything went their way against the St. Joseph Bulldogs on Thursday as they made off with a 14-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 12 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
L Cornett made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two triples and four RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lexy Cannon, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor White, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Concord kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in seven consecutive matchups.
Concord's win bumped their record up to 16-7. As for St. Joseph, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.
