Baseball Game Preview: Northeast Vikings vs. Philadelphia Academy Charter Chargers

The Northeast Vikings will take on the Philadelphia Academy Charter Chargers at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Northeast will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Northeast is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Science Leadership Academy 16-5 on Thursday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with Science Leadership Academy recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Junelfy Montilla-Contreras made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Montilla-Contreras was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Saunders Del Obre was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Calvin Castro, who scored four runs while going 3-for-5.

Northeast always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Philadelphia Academy Charter's offense. They came up short against Frankford on Thursday, falling 10-0. The Chargers have struggled against the Pioneers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Philadelphia Academy Charter saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Comitalo, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Philadelphia Academy Charter's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Northeast, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.

Northeast came out on top in a nail-biter against Philadelphia Academy Charter in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, sneaking past 7-5. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
