Softball Recap: California Has No Trouble Against Whittier

California won the last time they faced Whittier and things went their way on Thursday too. The Condors were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Condors, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Pricilla Ramirez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mia Martinez was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Gurule, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

California has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Whittier, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home.

California and Whittier could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Condors will square off against La Mirada at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (84 vs. 5). Meanwhile, Whittier (ranked 731st) will meet El Rancho (ranked 194th) at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
