Volleyball Recap: Avon Lake's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Avon Lake waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Steele Comets by a score of 3-1. The Shoremen have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Comets, too.

Avon Lake had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 30-32, 26-24, 25-18, 35-33.

Kendall Bondar paced Avon Lake's offense, picking up 17 kills. Bondar got some help from Emily Loeffler and her 58 assists. Bondar was also a major player on defense: she and she shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with three each.

Despite the defeat, Steele had strong showings from Amalee Caldera, who had 24 digs and two aces, and Callie Beckler, who had 26 assists and 12 digs. Beckler is crushing it when it comes to assists: she's posted at least 19 every time she's taken the court this season.

Avon Lake's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Steele, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Avon Lake will host Elyria at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Steele, they have already played their next game, a 3-0 win against Firelands on the 23rd.
