Basketball Recap: Monticello Comes Up Short

Monticello lost against Charlottesville last Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Monticello Mustangs took a 53-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Charlottesville Black Knights. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Monticello still got an impressive performance from Zayden Simpson, who posted seven points along with six rebounds and five steals. Simpson has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Messinger, who had nine points and six boards.

Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Charlottesville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Monticello has already played their next game, a 66-37 win against Louisa County on the 4th. As for Charlottesville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 55-49 victory against Goochland on the 4th.
