Basketball Recap: Mesilla Valley Christian School Gets the Win

Mesilla Valley Christian School is still undefeated this season after their game against Socorro on Saturday, but Socorro came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Socorro Warriors 57-55. The SonBlazers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Warriors, too.

When it comes to explaining why Socorro lost, don't look at Ivan Giron-Vega. Despite the final result, he posted 20 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Angel, who earned eight points.

Mesilla Valley Christian School pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Socorro, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Mesilla Valley Christian School will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on New Mexico Military Institute at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. As for Socorro, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 80-53 defeat against Pojoaque Valley on the 7th.
