Basketball Game Preview: Wellston Golden Rockets vs. Athens Bulldogs

Wellston hasn't had much luck against Athens recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wellston Golden Rockets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Athens Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Saturday, Wellston was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to Clay.

Meanwhile, Athens suffered their biggest defeat since January 9, 2024 on Saturday. They were outmatched by Warren and fell 76-33. The loss continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now lost five in a row.

Wellston's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Athens, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-7.

Wellston lost to Athens at home by a decisive 60-42 margin in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Wellston avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
