Baseball Game Preview: Northwest Mounties vs. Madison Trojans

The Northwest Mounties are taking a road trip to square off against the Madison Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Madison will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Northwest extended their winning streak to five on Thursday. The Mounties came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 12-11 W against Hastings. While the Mounties didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Madison made easy work of Blissfield on Thursday and carried off a 12-2 victory. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Royals recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Cole Grof made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Madison got a massive performance out of Elliott Beagle, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave Beagle a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brooks Horwath, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Madison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Madison's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Northwest, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
