Softball Game Preview: Brandywine Bulldogs vs. McKean Highlanders

Brandywine is a perfect 5-0 against McKean since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Highlanders at 3:30 p.m. Brandywine is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.

Brandywine is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Mount Pleasant, who was ranked 20th at the time (Brandywine was ranked 21st). The Bulldogs came out on top against the Green Knights by a score of 13-10 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Green Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Abigail McFarland, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassidy Graham, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Brandywine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, McKean was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 17-0 to Concord.

Brandywine's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for McKean, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Everything went Brandywine's way against McKean in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Brandywine made off with an 18-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
