Basketball Recap: Thomas County Central Takes a Loss

Thomas County Central was the 42-37 winner over Coffee when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets were beaten by the Coffee Trojans 63-22 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Trojans are ranked 31st).

Several Yellow Jackets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chan Dunbar, who posted seven points. Adelle Ganga was another key player, putting up four points.

Even though they lost, Thomas County Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 22 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Thomas County Central's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Coffee, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1.

Thomas County Central will host Houston County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Coffee, they are taking a road trip to challenge Clinch County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Coffee's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.
