Baseball Recap: New Brockton Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

New Brockton had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Pike County on Thursday. The Gamecocks never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Gamecocks, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Hayden Pope and James Downing did most of the damage at the plate: Pope scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-1, while Downing scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs Downing has posted since back in March. Will Adkison was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: New Brockton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matches.

New Brockton is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Pike County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-15.

New Brockton will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
