Preview: Pinon Eagles vs. Round Valley Elks
Pinon is 0-10 against Round Valley since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Pinon Eagles will be home for the holidays to greet the Round Valley Elks at 6:00 p.m. Pinon has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Pinon scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 54-8 win over Greyhills Academy on the road. That 54-8 margin sets a new team best for Pinon this season.
Pinon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shanna Begaye led the charge by scoring 13 points along with nine steals. Begaye continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kylie Bia, who scored 13 points along with seven steals.
Meanwhile, Round Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. Their rough 52-27 defeat to Snowflake might stick with them for a while.
Pinon's victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3. As for Round Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
Pinon might still be hurting after the 52-26 loss they got from Round Valley when the teams last played back in November. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Pinon was down 32-8.
