Volleyball Recap: Layton Lancers vs. Clearfield Falcons
Layton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to the Clearfield Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 two weeks ago.
Layton started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 25-13, 25-15, 25-15.
Sam Pizarro Guiral paced Layton's offense, picking up eight kills. Pizarro Guiral were helped by Aaron Peck and Ben Peterson, who contributed six assists each. Peck also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Cody Lambert, racking up two apiece.
Layton's loss dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Clearfield, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season.
Layton and Clearfield are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Lancers will face off against American Fork at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Clearfield, they will challenge Hunter at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons are facing the Wolverines at the right time seeing as the Wolverines are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
