Woodford County had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 16-12-1 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They skirted past the Highlands Bluebirds 3-2. The Yellowjackets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bluebirds, too.
Sophia Gannon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Addie Bryant was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
As for Highlands, the loss snapped their winning streak at 16 games and leaves them with a 23-6-1 record. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Highlands' side, Alli Meyers was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Markus, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Woodford County and Highlands should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings. The Yellowjackets will face off against Knox Central at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (48 vs. 137). Meanwhile, Highlands (ranked 32nd) will meet Dixie Heights (ranked 203rd) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
