Baseball Game Preview: Alamo Heights Mules vs. Boerne Greyhounds

The Alamo Heights Mules will square off against the Boerne Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Alamo Heights has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Alamo Heights easily dispatched Southwest on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Alamo Heights fell just short of Cornerstone Christian by a score of 13-11 on Saturday. Even though they lost, the Mules' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.3 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Luke Spielhagen led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Alamo Heights' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-11-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of William Bishop, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Spielhagen wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Alamo Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Boerne didn't have quite enough to beat Boerne-Champion on Friday and fell 2-1.

Boerne's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4. As for Alamo Heights, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12-1 record this season.

Alamo Heights couldn't quite get it done against Boerne in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 as they fell 5-2. Can Alamo Heights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
