Steele Canyon barely beat Clairemont the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Steele Canyon Cougars blew past the Clairemont Chieftains 13-4 on Monday. Considering the Cougars have won five matches by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Marina Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Gonzalez was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Kayala Hopkins was a standout: she scored three runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Makenzie Meyer also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Steele Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clairemont only posted a batting average of .300.
Steele Canyon now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Clairemont, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Steele Canyon will host Olympian at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Clairemont, they will be playing at home against El Capitan at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
