Baseball Recap: Greater New Bedford RVT Triumphs

Greater New Bedford RVT never let their opponents score on Friday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Apponequet Regional Lakers. This was a revenge game for the Bears: when they faced off against the Lakers back in April, they had to take a 9-7 loss.

The result came thanks to Jack Anderson's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Greater New Bedford RVT is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Dorian Fortes and Fabien Garcia did most of the damage at the plate: Fortes went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI, while Garcia got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Those two doubles gave Fortes a new career-high. Illiam Santiago was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Greater New Bedford RVT is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Apponequet Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greater New Bedford RVT will face off against Somerset Berkley Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Apponequet Regional, they will square off against Old Rochester Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
