Baseball Recap: Wharton Comes Up Short

Wharton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost 10-3 to the Van Vleck Leopards. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Leopards this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 back in February.

Layden Wynn was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Even though they lost, Wharton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Wharton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Van Vleck, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-4.

Wharton will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on March 18th. As for Van Vleck, they will face off against Victoria Cobra HomeSchool at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Victoria Cobra HomeSchool is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
