Baseball Game Preview: Central Catholic Vikings vs. Montour Spartans

The Central Catholic Vikings will venture away from home to challenge the Montour Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Central Catholic will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Central Catholic lost a heartbreaker the last time they played South Fayette, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's matchup. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Lions on Wednesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their nine-game losing streak.

Landon Greene was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of CJ Proch, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Montour came out on top against Baldwin on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Spartans walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Highlanders.

Michael Ivanoff made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Ivanoff was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Porto, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Matteo Weber was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Montour has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Central Catholic, their record now sits at 5-11.

Central Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Montour in their previous matchup back in March of 2021, sneaking past 9-7. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
