Maize had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Salina South Cougars. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-3 on Tuesday.

Quincy Koehn looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.

At the plate, Gavin Short and Malachi Leichner did most of the damage at the plate: Short went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Leichner went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Leichner a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Scotty Hadley, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Maize kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.

Maize's record now sits at 12-2. As for Salina South, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Maize will face off against Andover Central at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Salina South, they will head out to square off against Hutchinson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
