Thoreau hasn't had much luck against Navajo Prep recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Eagles at 3:00 p.m. Thoreau has given up an average of 13.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Thoreau is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against Zuni, falling 11-3.
Meanwhile, Navajo Prep waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. Navajo Prep's victory was all the more impressive since the Cougars were averaging only 4.06 runs allowed on the season.
Khol Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Navajo Prep is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-12 otherwise. Johnson was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, Navajo Prep let Koltyn Holyan and Jashyro Bileen run wild. Holyan went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Bileen went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, Bileen is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Keith Dodge, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Navajo Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Thoreau's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Navajo Prep, their record now sits at 7-13.
Thoreau might still be hurting after the 18-2 defeat they got from Navajo Prep in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
