Softball Recap: Grand County Wins Going Away Against Rowland Hall

Grand County won the last time they faced Rowland Hall and things went their way on Thursday too. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Winged Lions. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

CHLOE Byrd made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danica Hirschfeld, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Wilson, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Grand County lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Grand County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rowland Hall, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grand County will head out to take on North Summit at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Braves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.43 runs per game on average), something the Red Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Rowland Hall, they will face off against East at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
