Baseball Recap: Elyria Comes Up Short

Elyria had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-11-1 to make it five. They fell 6-1 to the Midview Middies. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Pioneers couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Midview, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-11 record this season. That looming 6-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Midview's part, Noah Munshower spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. Munshower also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Middies are 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Midview let Kaiden Vogelpohl and Daniel Melendez run wild. Vogelpohl went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Melendez went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave Vogelpohl a new career-high. Camden Scott was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Midview will square off against Benedictine at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Elyria will be paying especially close attention to the Middies' contest: after the Middies face off against the Bengals, they'll take on Elyria again at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
