Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Takes a Loss

St. Mary entered their match against Salida on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The St. Mary's Pirates fell just short of the Salida Spartans by a score of 46-43. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, St. Mary's still got an impressive performance from Jaela Pedro, who posted 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Nail, who had nine points.

St. Mary's loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Salida, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.

St. Mary's and Salida should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. St. Mary's (ranked 93rd) will meet Eagle Ridge Academy (ranked 213th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as St. Mary's comes in on three and Salida on six. Similarly, Salida will take on Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday up 210 places (55 vs. 265). St. Mary's will be looking to keep their nine-game home win streak dating back to last season alive.
