Softball Game Preview: Palisades Pumas vs. Ardrey Kell Knights

Palisades hasn't had much luck against Ardrey Kell recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Palisades is taking a road trip to square off against Ardrey Kell at 5:30 p.m. Palisades has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Palisades fell victim to Independence and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 13-0 to the Patriots.

Meanwhile, Ardrey Kell was able to grind out a solid win over South Mecklenburg on Wednesday, taking the game 9-4. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Sabres: they've now won three in a row.

Jenna Volturno was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Volturno was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Tessa Sanchez-Barrios and Janey Galek did most of the damage at the plate: Sanchez-Barrios went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base, while Galek scored two runs while going 2-for-5. What's more, Galek posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Kambria Bragg also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Ardrey Kell hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Palisades now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Ardrey Kell, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Palisades hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like Ardrey Kell struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Palisades suffered a grim 15-7 defeat to Ardrey Kell in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Palisades avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
