Basketball Game Preview: Cyprus Pirates vs. Hunter Wolverines

Cyprus has gone 8-2 against Hunter recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cyprus Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Hunter Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. Cyprus is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.5 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Cyprus humbled Granger with an 81-44 victory. The Pirates pushed the score to 57-34 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lancers had little chance of recovering from.

Cyprus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paden Sharp led the charge by going 7 for 13 from beyond the arc on his way to 21 points. Those 21 points gave Sharp a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Koli Fosita, who went 7 of 13 to rack up 17 points.

Cyprus was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Granger only posted five assists.

Meanwhile, Hunter suffered their biggest loss since December 16, 2024 on Friday. They lost 67-46 to Juan Diego Catholic. The Wolverines' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Cyprus has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.8 points over those games. As for Hunter, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.

Cyprus strolled past Hunter when the teams last played back in January by a score of 75-61. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cyprus since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
