Basketball Recap: Mullen Falls Despite Big Games from Ben Werner and Jacob Walker

Mullen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 65-50 to the Hay Springs Hawks. The Broncos were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Mullen's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jacob Walker, who went 9-for-15 to rack up 22 points, and Ben Werner, who posted 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Walker a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Hardin, who scored eight points.

Hay Springs' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Young, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten boards. The matchup was Young's sixth in a row with at least 16 points. Jaron Dahlgren was another key player, putting up 13 points and six rebounds.

Mullen's loss dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Hay Springs, their record now sits at 13-9.

Mullen wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-35 defeat against Sandhills/Thedford on the 25th. As for Hay Springs, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-60 win against Crawford on the 25th.
