Preview: Mt. Vernon Wildcats vs. Tell City Marksmen
Mt. Vernon is 4-0 against Tell City since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mt. Vernon Wildcats will be staying on the road to face off against the Tell City Marksmen at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Saturday, Mt. Vernon was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 58-53 to Carmi-White County.
Despite the loss, Mt. Vernon had strong showings from Nicot Burnett, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds, and Nash Hostetter, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Mt. Vernon struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Tell City's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their 12th straight loss. They suffered a tough 59-37 defeat at the hands of Gibson Southern. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Tell City in their matchups with Gibson Southern: they've now lost five in a row.
Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Tell City, their loss was their ninth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-15.
Everything came up roses for Mt. Vernon against Tell City in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 70-41 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mt. Vernon since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
