Basketball Recap: Mason Mccarty's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Crawfordsville over Western Boone

Crawfordsville was the 52-45 winner over Western Boone when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Crawfordsville Athenians took a 58-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Western Boone Stars. The Athenians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Athenians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mason McCarty, who posted 21 points. The game was McCarty's fourth in a row with at least 20 points. Another player making a difference was Johnovan Smith, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 15 points along with seven boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Crawfordsville was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western Boone only racked up six assists.

Gavin Hawkins was his usual excellent self, putting up 23 points for Western Boone. Hawkins is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Quinn Westerfeld was another key player, earning 13 points and eight rebounds.

Crawfordsville's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Western Boone, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-10.

Crawfordsville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 78-40 loss against McCutcheon on the 11th. As for Western Boone, they have also already played their next contest, a 52-43 victory against Clinton Central on the 8th.
