Preview: York Prep Patriots vs. Central Eagles
York Prep has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Central Eagles at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though York Prep has not done well against Buford recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. York Prep breezed by Buford at home to the tune of 47-20. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory York Prep has posted yet this season.
Payton Munsey was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 12 points, ten rebounds, and ten blocks. Another player making a difference was Jordan Roberts, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Central had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Buford by a score of 53-45 on Monday. Central's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sierra Covington out in front who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Covington has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taisha Quick, who scored 16 points along with four steals.
York Prep's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Central, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-12.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: York Prep have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 17.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for York Prep against Central in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 66-37 win. Does York Prep have another victory up their sleeve, or will Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
