Softball Preview: Arvin Bears vs. Golden Valley Bulldogs
Arvin is 1-9 against Golden Valley since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Arvin Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Golden Valley Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Arvin scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Friday. Everything went their way against Del Oro as Arvin made off with an 18-3 win. Winning may never get old, but Arvin sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Ava Velazquez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Velazquez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive pitching appearances. Velazquez was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring five runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Sophia Gonzalez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sadie Taffolla, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Golden Valley waltzed into their contest two weeks ago with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Trojans as they made off with a 17-4 victory.
Arvin's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those victories were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs per game. As for Golden Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
