Softball Game Preview: Veterans Memorial Patriots vs. Boerne Greyhounds

The Veterans Memorial Patriots will take on the Boerne Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Veterans Memorial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Veterans Memorial beat Alamo Heights 8-5. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Mules: they've now won six in a row.

Kyani Morn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jasmine Allen was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madison Keifer, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Allen wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Veterans Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alamo Heights only managed five hits.

Meanwhile, Boerne lost a heartbreaker to Tivy when they met back in February of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Tuesday. Boerne fell just short of Tivy by a score of 9-7. The Greyhounds haven't had much luck with the Antlers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Veterans Memorial's win bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Boerne, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.

Veterans Memorial took their victory against Boerne when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 8-0. Does Veterans Memorial have another victory up their sleeve, or will Boerne turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
