Baseball Game Preview: Wellsboro Hornets vs. Athens Wildcats

The Wellsboro Hornets will venture away from home to face off against the Athens Wildcats at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

On Saturday, Wellsboro came up short against Shikellamy and fell 10-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Hornets in their meetings with the Braves: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Athens had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They never let the Indians get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Connor Davidson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Davidson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Athens let Brady Flynn and Brendan Cooke run wild. Flynn went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Cooke went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Troy Rosenbloom, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Athens was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.

Athens' record is now 14-2. As for Wellsboro, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

Wellsboro suffered a grim 16-10 defeat to Athens when the teams last played back in March. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
