League recap: Ridgeland tops Dalton to extend winning streak

AAAA Region 7B recap Oct. 9, 2012

Ridgeland extended the longest winning streak in AAAA Region 7B this week by beating Dalton, 48-21. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

Ridgeland took down the Catamounts 48-21 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Dalton's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Catamounts feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Cole Calfee has thrown for 491 yards and four touchdowns this season, while Brandon Dale has 19 catches for 337 yards. Kelvis Rhodes leads the league in rushing with 701 yards.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Dalton takes on Northwest Whitfield. The Catamounts' offense has scored 132 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Bruins have allowed only 71 on the year.

A big matchup in AAAA Region 7B this week will be when Dalton takes on Northwest Whitfield. As it stands, the Catamounts are in third, while the Bruins are in second.

Heritage made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,136 from 11,636. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 31-11 victory over Heritage last week.
