Baseball Recap: Henderson County Takes a Loss

After flying high against Webster County on Thursday, Henderson County came back down to earth. The Colonels lost 14-7 to the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons on Friday. Surprisingly, this marked the Colonels' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Henderson County got a good showing from Jaxson Kellen, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Kellen a new career-low.

On the hitting side, Maxton Meadows and Reed Clark did some serious damage despite the final result: Meadows got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI, while Clark went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those RBI were Clark's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brody Belt, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Henderson County's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Madisonville-North Hopkins, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Henderson County will venture away from home to face off against Owensboro Catholic at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Aces' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Colonels' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Madisonville-North Hopkins, they will head out to challenge Daviess County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
