Softball Preview: St. Joseph Cadets vs. Westhill Vikings

St. Joseph is 8-2 against Westhill since May of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The St. Joseph Cadets will look to defend their home field against the Westhill Vikings at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Joseph has 12 straight victories, Westhill has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

St. Joseph stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 14-4 margin over Trumbull.

Katie Dzialo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Dzialo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in 11 consecutive pitching appearances. Dzialo was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with a double and an RBI.

In other batting news, MacKenzie Caouette was a standout: she scored a run while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Makena Hawkins, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Meanwhile, Westhill didn't have quite enough to beat Ludlowe last Monday and fell 3-2.

St. Joseph pushed their record up to 13-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Westhill, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
