Baseball Recap: Brookfield Extends Home Winning Streak to 11

Brookfield barely beat Pomperaug the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bobcats put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 9-3 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Matt McDowell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Connor Jordan and Garrett McGovern did most of the damage at the plate: Jordan went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while McGovern went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Jordan a new career-high. Jack Ponte also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Brookfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Brookfield pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Pomperaug, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
